Crank Up the Misinformation Machine!

On this somnolent Sunday morning we all awoke to the news of yet another radical, violent, crazy, fevered Muslim bastard taking up arms for ISIS and shooting up a nightclub in Orlando Florida. Apparently there are 50 victims dead with 53 wounded at this time. Sadly the death toll may rise as many of the people in the hospitals and trauma centers are critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these people and their loved ones.

But if you count the truth as a victim in this atrocity the death toll rises to 51 dead.

Within minutes the misinformation machine cranked up and began spewing crap all over the airwaves.

“Experts” in many fields came forth to strut their stuff with many seemingly not really having a clue what the hell it was they spoke of.

On FOX News we had this: “Assault rifles fire high powered rounds that are designed to fragment upon impact which makes the trauma surgeon’s work all that much more difficult.”

Wrong.

“Cartridge, 5.56-mm, Ball, M193”.

The standard M193 round designed for the AR-15 rifle is a 55 grain full metal jacket specifically designed to comply with the Geneva Convention’s prohibition against expanding or fragmenting projectiles. Their deployment under the “Laws of War” is proscribed by a “Declaration on the Use of Bullets Which Expand or Flatten Easily in the Human Body” adopted at the First Hague Peace Conference of 29 July, 1899. From the Army Study Guide, “The M193 cartridge is a center-fire cartridge with a 55-grain, gilded metal-jacketed, lead alloy core bullet.”

Now it may be the case that the porcine enamored nut-bag in Florida used a hollow point or soft point round in his AR-15 but it is categorically wrong to flat-out state that the AR-15 fires rounds designed to fragment as the standard round is specifically designed NOT to fragment.

From another “Expert” commenter on the Huffington Post comes this: “The NRA will say if everyone in the club had a gun this wouldn’t have happened. What convoluted thinking.”

Really? How far would this killer have gotten if the case was that everyone was armed? Would he have been free to spend three hours rounding up hostages and killing people if everyone in there had been armed? I’m not recommending everybody in a nightclub drinking alcohol be armed but it was not I who made the stupid comment above and offered up the scenario.

Another poster: “You can tell them of this incident, when they chant…a good guy with a gun.
Because a good guy with a gun did not stop this.”

Ahh, yes, they did. A good guy with a gun DID put a stop to this. The SWAT Team went in and shot the guy dead. He was stopped right then when he was shot. Dead. He did not continue doing harm once he was, you know, DEAD.

“THE FACT IS THAT THIS IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WHERE THIS HAPPENS. THAT’S THE AMERICAN SPIRIT!!! GOOD JOB!”

Again, wrong, all-caps-guy. I’m not going to bother listing them all here but there have been many mass shootings in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, South America. Here’s a list of just the mass killings in Europe. Here’s the list for Asia. Remember this one? Anders Behring Breivik, dressed in a homemade police uniform and showing false identification, on July 22, 2011 set off a bomb that killed 8 immediately and injured 209 and then took a ferry to the island of Utoya and opened fire at the children there, killing 69 of them outright and injuring at least 110; 55 of them seriously. So as you can see this does happen in other places. You can do your own research if you are so inclined or you can wallow in your ignorance.

Yet another pseudo-expert posited this: “The NRA is behind stopping any laws that stop anybody from getting any weapons within a couple of days.”

You mean the NRA which pushed the National Instant Check System (NICS) through and worked to make it the law of the land? That NRA? Idiot.

On Fox News channel just now as I write this a witness claims he saw a guy who was out of the area of danger who had a “bullet sticking out of his leg.” The “witness” claimed the bullet-in-the-leg guy wasn’t even aware of this until he was told about it. He made a gesture with his fingers several times to demonstrate the size of the projectile allegedly sticking out of the man’s leg. The size he claimed by this demonstration was about 3 inches. I’m not sure what he saw but it wasn’t a bullet that was sticking out of the man’s leg. A fifty-five grain .223 projectile is .224 inches in diameter and .735 inches long, even the heaviest bullets for this cartridge run .9 inches in length. A 9 M/M projectile is even shorter. Now understand this, I am not faulting the witness here at all. Clearly he has just been through a very traumatizing event. But for Megyn Kelly to simply accept this without question shows just how little these talking heads know.
