Liberty’s Teeth

Perhaps they never thought it could happen or perhaps they believed the lies told by the fascist, deceitful Democrats, that they really only wanted “reasonable gun safety laws” for the children; that “no one is coming for your guns”. Whatever it was, last November, the citizens of Virginia collectively lost their minds and elected enough Democrats so that the state government is now completely infested with these recreant dastards.

Once elected, the newly empowered autocratic prevaricators wasted no time in announcing that they would begin to enact their anti-freedom agenda as soon as they were sworn in and seated. To that end they began to pre-file all sorts of totalitarian, anti-freedom laws and they simply could not wait to take their oaths of office so they could immediately violate those same oaths by enacting these unconstitutional abominations into law.

Among these pre-written gun control bills were proposals to ban so-called assault weapons, magazines that held over ten rounds as well as any guns that can take such a magazine, raising the age to purchase a firearm to 21, passing red flag laws that are antithetical to the Bill of Rights, enacting universal background checks, outlawing firearms training and creating any number of anti-freedom bills; bills that plump their protuberances and soil their night sheets for these are the tyrannical, anti-bill of rights crowd’s wet dreams realized. This time, they are certain that they are going to get all the things they had dreamed about for so long but dared not speak out loud. But in their breathless anticipation of the realization of these dreams they seem unaware of the bright, flashing warning lights and the klaxons sounding danger ahead.

In response to this the good citizens of Virginia began declaring their counties as second amendment sanctuaries where the local law enforcement would simply not enforce these unjust laws.

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. … God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion; what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?  Let them take arms.” — Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, 1787

And take arms they did, when back in January of this year thousands of armed and peaceful patriots assembled on the capital grounds to demonstrate that the spirit of resistance was alive and well in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring countered by issuing an opinion saying that the law is the law and laws passed will be enforced and followed. Democratic Representative Donald McEachin suggested the cutting off of funds to counties that do not comply with the new disarmament edicts. He further said that the governor may have to mobilize the National Guard to crush the law-abiding citizens who dare raise their middle fingers in defiance of the King. Former Klansman impersonator and current governor, Ralph “Blackface” Northam has asked for additional funds for the various departments he thinks will need them to crush dissent by the formerly free Virginians.

Thus we get to the crux of the matter; the AG is correct. Laws enacted by duly elected representatives, even ones you did not vote for, are in fact laws and should be followed and enforced.

Usually.

However the Declaration of Independence says this in part:

“Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

What does this mean?

Even though all this treachery being carried out in Richmond may be legal, neat and tidy and “by the book” the people still must consent, not just at the last election, but today, tomorrow and next week.

This is what is happening in Virginia right now. This is the very beating heart of the Second Amendment in action; what St. George Tucker, professor of law at the College of William & Mary in the 1780’s, called the “palladium of liberty”.

What makes an individual comply with any law?

Moral principles?

Threats of punishment?

Perhaps, but what makes the vast majority of society, collectively, follow the body of laws not just today, but tomorrow and the next day and the next week?

The people loan their God-given sovereignty to the government and they entrust this power to and expect their government to hold it sacred.

There’s another line in the Declaration of Independence that says this:

“…that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it…”

Thus, when a government goes rogue, that is, when it becomes so radical that the people are appalled and repulsed by it and widely believe that it no longer has their best interests at heart, they can and will simply withdraw their consent to be so governed; they needn’t wait until next time they are asked on a ballot. This withdrawal of consent can be put somewhat inelegantly as the “Screw You” clause.

However, in their brilliance the founding fathers built inertia into the system to ensure that armed rebellions would not occur regularly and the Declaration of Independence speaks to this.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”

Quite simply, the Second Amendment is Liberty’s Teeth. It is the means, it is the mechanism, with which the people are enabled to withdraw their consent to be so governed when all other redress has failed. These are not just words on paper vacuously extolling the people’s sovereignty; this is the codified provision for actual instruments of force, real power, to be entrusted to the hands of the people. These are liberty’s teeth and no other nation on earth has so trusted its people to retain this potential. The Second Amendment is what makes America unique, free and great. This is why the means of resistance are so redoubtable, so repellent to the ruling class of elites; for they know that without the Second Amendment the people’s power becomes null and void; their power ascendant and absolute.

“How dare these loutish, ammo-sexual rustics who live among the hay bales in flyover country demand to be entrusted with the means to rise up and oppose our superior will and intellect?”

To a certain group of lawmakers it is therefore imperative that the Second Amendment, more than any other, be eroded, infringed and eventually razed. At this time their masks have slipped and they speak of openly crushing those who would dare to challenge their power; power they never really had though apparently this will be news to them when such news arrives.

We are now careening headlong into that time when the evils are no longer sufferable, at least to many who sense that these governments, local, state and federal; these men and women of the far, radical left, have as their direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over them. More and more it becomes obvious that those in power think they rule over the people and not the other way around. More and more it becomes obvious that those in power think the Bill of Rights is merely a speed bump over which they may drive with impunity.

Need further evidence of what I am saying?

Just look at what has transpired in the handful of weeks since the Corona Virus pandemic has gripped the nation. Many governors and mayors have found and connected with their inner despots and have decreed all sorts of rules for the people; rules that in many cases make zero sense with regard to pandemic virus safety but nevertheless are enforced with tyrannical enthusiasm.

We have people being arrested for walking on the beach, for riding a paddleboard alone just offshore, for jogging in the park by themselves. One governor has decreed that yard work is not allowed and has blocked the sales of vegetable seeds in the supermarkets where people are still allowed to go to purchase food, as if viral transmission is dependent upon what items one buys. Another has said that exterior paint sales are disallowed since some folks decided that as long as they were forced out of work they would get something done by working on their homes. In another state police were sent to an Easter service that was being held in closed cars in the parking lot with the congregants listening to the sermon on a low-power AM radio broadcast. The police were issuing $1000 citations to participants and recording license plate numbers of all who dared to exercise their first amendment rights to freedom of assembly and religion. Who among us could have imagined that in just a few short weeks America would start to resemble a despotic dictatorship with autocratic leaders handing down edicts that no elected representatives of the people debated or voted on? There is even talk of having “Immunity Passports” to be shown at checkpoints for those who have already had the virus and therefore may be immune to re-infection.

“Halt!”

When one realizes that even the corrupt fools that inhabit the halls of congress must know that making good people helpless won’t make bad people harmless; that disarming the law-abiding cannot possibly have anything to do with reducing violent crime; that banning the sale and planting of vegetable seeds or arresting a pastor who is holding an Easter church service via radio to congregants in closed cars in the parking lot or arresting a lone jogger on a beach; that none of these things have anything to do with blocking viral transmission, then one is suddenly struck with the awful realization that the reasons they seek the total disarmament of the people are quite dark and terrifying. Governments that long for a totally disarmed and compliant citizenry usually have plans to do things they know the average citizen would shoot them for and, having a healthy aversion to being so shot, they therefore seek the removal from the citizens of that ultimate means of resistance to them.

If wisdom were a trait found in anything other than trace amounts in the miscreants who wander the halls of make believe power they would recognize and back away from the bared teeth, the menacing growl, but today’s self-absorbed elites will, and are, charging right on past the red lines so clearly being drawn, filled with groundless bluster and an insolent sense of their power and righteousness.

Perfidious lawmakers filled with defiant bravado and smug superiority when speaking from the safety of the assembly floor should be keenly aware that such perorations do not translate into victory on either the battlefields of ideas nor on the battlefields of blood, smoke and mud that they may inadvertently give rise to. The people can only be pushed so far and then all hell will be loosed and once commenced this enmity may be unstoppable with no one knowing how far it will go.

Heed this warning!

For these reasons we no longer grant our consent to be governed by these elected officials and said consent is hereby withdrawn.

Even in this disaffected age where the fires of liberty have been tamped down or entirely extinguished in the hearts of many semi-conscious Americans, still there remain the seeds of revolution laying in American soil awaiting the correct conditions to germinate. The news each day is filled with incidents of unnecessary authoritarianism and oppression that will provide fertile ground to bring forth just such conditions.

The gatherings of armed patriots are for now peaceable. This may not always be the case.
